FIGHT CLUB!!

The slighty longer version.

Despite being an extrovert, I’m a painfully private person. Putting myself out there for the world to see is hard. And scary. I’m going to do it anyway.

I’ve been climbing on and off for a little over a decade. As a person who struggles with ADHD, depression, addiction, and suicidal ideation, along with a host of other health problems too long to list,  I’d like to invite you to join me on my journey to heal, atone, grow, stumble.  All while having the time of our life. Life is hard enough as it is. We don’t need to go through it alone. I’m not promising to fix your pain, or that I’ll fix all of mine, but I am offering an opportunity, as friend, a neighbor, a person who cares, to feel it, acknowledge it, thank it, and let it go.

I don’t have the answers because quite frankly I don’t know the question. But I do know that getting back in touch with my inner child, with nature and doing something that I love is helping to heal old wounds I didn’t even know I had.

So if you ever find yourself in the darkness. Alone, scared, and lost. Feel free to reach out. Lets get to know each other. We might have more in common than you think.

Hugs & Kisses,

Veronica & Patrick

Las Vegas is home to world-class rock climbing.  People literally fly from all over the world to climb on our rocks.  Veronica wants to make sure the local community has equal access.  That’s why Barrio Boulders is completely FREE.  There’s no cost to join, no cost to use our equipment, no cost for transportation, and no cost for guide services, because there’s no reason money should keep a person from being able to rock climb.  Besides, we’re not climbing guides, we’re just your neighbors who know how to climb and have lots of gear!

When she’s not playing in the dirt, Veronica has held a wide variety of roles in the community. She’s a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where she was trained and published as a scientist (check out her LinkedIn), and she occasionally serves as a substitute teacher, but she’s currently working full-time on making Barrio Boulders a reality.  We’re starting as a climbing club, but we’re working towards establishing our own indoor climbing facility where we can help remove even more barriers for our community.  Veronica’s vision for Barrio Boulders Climbing Gym includes not only a Pay What You Can fee structure for gym membership, but that fee structure will also apply to the food kitchen, clothing and home goods store, day care, and after-school tutoring programs that we hope to incorporate as well.

Veronica’s belay in life is "Funcle Patrick,” who you will meet if you come climbing with us.  When they’re not out in the desert, you’re most likely to find them on the couch under the careful supervision of their dogs Harold and Nibbler.
