Raising our community to new heights

Rock climbing is more than just a sport. It’s a path towards building community, an opportunity to change lives, a lesson in perseverance, and a reminder of what it truly means to be alive.

Climbing has been transformative in our own lives, so here at Barrio Boulders we are on a mission to bring that privilege to our community.

Our ultimate goal is to build an indoor climbing facility that also provides community services patterned after the gym that inspired it all, Memphis Rox - check them out!

But until we get the gym built, we’re getting started by taking our Barrio out to play locally in Las Vegas, NV.

Our Vision:

Build a safe and welcoming space where people from all cultural, racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds can find community REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY

Our Plan:

Build a climbing facility in an underserved area of Las Vegas, NV where we can:

  • Provide healthy food options within a food desert 

  • Provide free or low cost after school programs  

  • Provide fair and equitable employment opportunities 

  • Provide access to a community closet for those in need

  • Aid our community in accessing local resources and social services

  • Sponsor and host community events featuring local vendors and community leaders

  • Foster a renewed sense of hope, joy, and pride in our community!

The Barrio Boulders community is founded on a set of values that are very important to us, the first of which is that we value PEOPLE OVER PROFITS. We believe anyone who wants to join our community and climb with us should have the opportunity to do so, regardless of their ability to pay. As organizers, it’s our duty to remove obstacles and facilitate inclusion. Whatever it is that’s holding you back, let us know and we’ll figure out a solution together.

Do it scared.

Climbing is about facing fears, overcoming challenges, and finding out just how powerful you really are. If you want to try climbing with us, let us know and we will make it happen. Our community welcomes you with open arms.

Protect the vulnerable.

Another of our core values is good stewardship of our community, ourselves, and our planet. The rocks we climb exist in beautiful natural spaces, but those spaces will only continue to exist as long as we protect them.

That’s why we organize crag clean-up events and encourage our Barrio to be good stewards of the land.

The incredible experiences that can happen in spaces like Red Rocks National Conservation Area are only possible as long as we have access, and that access is never guaranteed. That’s why Barrio Boulders proudly supports Access Fund (and we encourage you to, also!).

Push till failure.

Here at Barrio Boulders, we believe in opportunities for personal growth. Climbing teaches us to embrace failure.

Every day, every failed attempt is an opportunity to dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes, and do better tomorrow.

The key to climbing mountains is to take it one terrified yet motivated step at a time.

Calm your mind.

In addition to maintaining physical fitness, climbing is an incredible way to train your mind to focus on the moment. Life happens. While we can’t control the chaos, we CAN control how we respond and interact with it. Join our Barrio and allow yourself to be present and feel the joy that surrounds you.

For those in search of a new path, climbing can be a career. Besides becoming a professional climber, climbing offers endless career opportunities, from photography to nature guide to field scientist and more.
